"The Glass Architects"

"Henning Fehrmann illustrates how Fehrmann Metallverarbeitung GmbH became a German key supplier. Key is the constant search for ways to meet design and safety requirements aboard superyachts, in the construction and engineering of tailor-made glass solutions.
In yachtbuilding, owners, designers, and engineers often have to subordinate their ideas and wishes to safety requirements. Ship parts made of (openable) glass are given specific attention. (...) 'The importance of glass and design elements aboard has increased during the last years', Henning Fehrmann, managing shareholder of Fehrmann Metallverarbeitung GmbH, explains. 'We open up yachts by glass elements while making safety a top priority. The ability to combine both, design and international safety standards, is one of our core competences.' Due to their knowhow and expertise Fehrmann's engineers aim to allow owners to realise their wishes and designers to recognise their own distinctive character while getting the approvals of classification and flag authorities at the same time. (...)

At its own plant and with its team of skilled workers, the company develops its tailor-made products that are in high demand, such as elegant glass sliding doors and windows for yachts, ships, and special vessels like recovery vessels combating oil spills and chemical accidents, for buildings in flood exposed areas, for sewage, air-conditioning and cleaning plants.
Any requirements windows on ships or yachts might have, such as bullet-proof, fire-resistant or EMS-protected - Fehrmann underlines it is strong in even the most extraordinary wishes. The products made by Fehrmann do not merely reflect modern technology, but also the company's constant aim to be the top-class manufacturer, setting standards in quality, function, and innovation. (...)

'Our motivation ist to move things forward', Henning Fehrmann says. The specialised experience handed over from generation to generation is a unique selling point the enterprise benefits from. (...)

The enterprise proudly announces it has recently developed the first and only fire-resistant glazing that fulfills the design requirements of yachts - mandatory escape routes on yachts for 13 to 36 passengers  (passenger yacht code by Red Ensign Group) or above. Besides the fulfilling of design, space, comfort, and safety requirements, it is the constant development and improvement that goads Fehrmann's team."

"Learning Labor Market Lessons from Germany"

"And despite the progress, it's clear that Germany hasn't eliminated the mismatch problem. German universities still aren't turning out enough engineers and IT specialists, according to the Adecco Institute, a think tank funded by Swiss temp giant Adecco. Even amid the recession, an Adecco study says, 29% of large German companies have trouble filling technical jobs. The upside to such problems, though, is that companies cling to their best workers as long as they can. "I want to keep everybody," says Henning Fehrmann, president of Fehrmann Metal Processing, a family-owned outfit in Hamburg that employs about 70 people making heavy-duty windows for ships. "If I let them go and I need them one year later, it will be a huge investment to retrain them."

„The final session of the conference was the Noise Debate, with a panel of Engineer Henning Fehrmann of Fehrmann Metallverarbeitung GmbH and Dr Christof Weissenborn from Germanischer Lloyd. This technical session delivered detailed research into the impact of external noise penetrating through glass structures and windows into the cabin and throughout the superstructure.”

"Glass and Class - A new way to measure Superyacht windows", The Yacht Report, October 2008

"Glass and Class - A new way to measure Superyacht windows"

“The function of windows is pretty obvious – one could even say clear: you look through them and they add to the aesthetical appeal of the yacht. As the technology of glass improves (and Class Societies generally approve) areas of glass aboard have increased.(…) Glass has another less attractive and less considered role: as a sound radiator. GL and Fehrmann GmbH have recently worked together to quantify that latter unwanted ‘feature’."
